Dome

Arizona's ghost towns are sun-bleached and honest — copper, silver, and gold camps that lived fast and died the moment the ore did.

Black Dome is the second highest point on the west end of the Tank Mountains, located in the northwestern Sonoran Desert in northeastern Yuma County, Arizona, and 57 miles (92 km) east northeast of the city of Yuma, Arizona. The western two-thirds of the Tank Mountains, including Black Dome, are located in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge which is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The east–west trending Tank Mountains lie next to the Kofa Mountains to the northwest.

The on-the-ground condition of Dome is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.

Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.

Here's the honest truth: access to Dome is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times. The mapped point for Dome is roughly 33.1458, -113.8095 — use it as a starting point and cross-reference a current topographic map before leaving pavement.

Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
