If walls could talk, Harlan would never shut up. Lucky for visitors, they mostly just stand there. Harlan Charles Huckleby (born December 30, 1957) is an American former professional football player who was a running back and kick returner for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL).
The story of Harlan
Michigan's ghost towns are copper and iron towns of the Upper Peninsula, plus lumber camps the pine barons abandoned.
Harlan Charles Huckleby (born December 30, 1957) is an American former professional football player who was a running back and kick returner for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 1979 NFL draft. Over the course of his NFL career he accumulated nearly 2500 all-purpose yards, with over half of that being return yards. He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines, winning three Big Ten Conference championships.
What you'll find today
The on-the-ground condition of Harlan is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.
Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Harlan is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
