Boomtowns are built on optimism; ghost towns are what's left when it runs out. Welcome to Ingham. Ingham was a community in Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States, established in 1886 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
Ingham is the lone documented ghost town in Lincoln County — for now.
The story of Ingham
Nebraska's ghost towns are railroad and homestead towns, spaced every few miles along lines the trains don't run anymore.
Ingham was a community in Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States, established in 1886 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Ingham was located near today's Highway 23, its location chosen as a rare level spot between the small villages of Farnam and Moorefield. Earliest settlers were dryland farmers and ranchers. The settlement became of sufficient size that a post office was secured in 1898. Ingham had a high school that graduated its first class in 1924. In addition to agricultural activities, Ingham developed a silica mining industry.
What you'll find today
The on-the-ground condition of Ingham is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.
Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Ingham is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
