Roosevelt

Oil changed the South the way gold changed the West — just faster and messier. The early-1900s strikes turned sleepy farm towns into roaring boomtowns overnight: derricks in the courthouse square, roughnecks, money moving too fast to count. Roosevelt may have caught that wave in East Carroll Parish County, or it may belong to the older timber-and-cotton economy the oil patch overran. Either way, the bust was as abrupt as the boom. When a field played out, the rigs moved to the next county and the boomtown deflated — sometimes in months. The pine forest grows back over all of it eventually, which gives Southern ghost towns their particular haunted-green look.

The on-the-ground condition of Roosevelt is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.

Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.

Here's the honest truth: access to Roosevelt is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times. Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
