Every ghost town is a bet that didn't pay off. Shea just shows the receipt more honestly than most. Gerald Joseph "Gerry" Shea (October 26, 1881 – May 3, 1964) was a Major League Baseball catcher. Shea played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1905. In 2 career games, he had two hits in six at-bats.
Jefferson County holds 3 documented ghost towns, including Bower, Meridian — Shea keeps them company on the map.
The story of Shea
Nebraska's ghost towns are railroad and homestead towns, spaced every few miles along lines the trains don't run anymore.
Gerald Joseph "Gerry" Shea (October 26, 1881 – May 3, 1964) was a Major League Baseball catcher. Shea played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1905. In 2 career games, he had two hits in six at-bats. It is unknown which hand he batted with and he threw right-handed. He was apparently the first major league player to graduate from Creighton University. Shea was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and died in Berkeley, Missouri.
What you'll find today
The on-the-ground condition of Shea is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.
Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Shea is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
